"Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.”

- Bill Nye

Making good decisions for yourself involves making good decisions for the environment. We need to step up now before it’s too late. Pacific North Wild’s Gallery Opening was put on to show the people of Olympia that you can do something to help the environment, even if you think you can’t. There are simple options like recycling and spreading awareness. However, there is also the chance for you to use what you’re good at to show people that we need to act now. Through photography I’ve been able to spread awareness and through videography Selina Bell has been able to do the same. There are plenty of things you can do! Like bringing a reusable cup or straw to the coffee place you go to every morning. Even if you don’t want to put in the work there are already thousands doing so and you can help them by donating to their cause. Causes like Sea Legacy that are helping clean up the oceans. Don’t know what to do for the environment? Want clean and healthy oceans for us and the planet, donate today and help Sea Legacy on their endeavor to turn the tide.

- Preservation or devastation -

Through these photographs, I want to encourage others to never lose their connection to nature, to protect the natural world around them, and to keep the environment safe and clean. Nature is a sacred place. When I was younger, being outdoors was like a second home, wandering through the forest, skiing down the slopes, and splashing around in the mud, were some of the greatest moments of my life. I explore true happiness, by finding a deeper connection to the natural world and by inspiring others to do this as well. Preservation or Devastation, explores euphoria of individuals through some of the most beautiful nature in the PNW and the importance of taking care of nature before it’s too late. The world is losing wildlife and nature daily. If people don't change their behavior and more importantly their actions, towards the remaining natural world, we won't just be unhappy, we will be running out of food and oxygen. Taking on the responsibility to keep this earth clean, to protect our national and state parks is simple. One can volunteer at wildlife rehabilitation & rescue centers like Elijah Gordon. Insuring you’re gardening habits are good for the environment and creating something that will help the animals trying to survive in urban areas like what Anika Goldner created for the Bees. Even motivating others to do their part for the environment by participating in speeches about Climate Change and Fossil Fuels like Roma Castellanos. These actions make a difference! Without nature the human race will not survive. If you don't believe me ask the scientists that have proven it. For example, the less trees we have the worse our oxygen becomes. There are so many environmental issues that need to be addressed. For example, asphalt pavement runoff, clear cutting, littering, wasting resources, fossil fuels, and pollution. These are some of many problems our world is facing. Commit to actively helping the environment. Our community has already made good choices. Let’s pledge to make more good choices for the Olympia community. Who knows it may start a world wide environmental movement.

Elijah Gordon has been working with For Heaven’s Sake Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation as an Intern and volunteer for three years. He often helps handle the education owls. This is one of the most recent education shows, where Elijah taught everyone about Beedo, the Barred Owl.

Anika Goldner is working on a project to save the bees by planting native wildflowers in urban areas, like abandoned lots or in strips along the sidewalks. This is part of the process Anika went through, using recycled materials to aid new seeds in their growth.

Roma Castellanos as student in Resource Rebels: Environmental Justice Movements Building Hope, studied possible economic options for the Port of Grays Harbor as alternatives to fossil fuel shipping. On May 5th at the 2017 2nd Annual Indigenous Climate Justice Symposium, Roma had the chance to speak on the options for the Port of Grays Harbor, at The Evergreen State College Longhouse.
